New Year’s Eve can be extremely scary for our four legged friends, as the loud bangs and bright lights from fireworks can resemble a war zone and lead to stress and anxiety. Quite a problem, especially when Denmark has seen a surge in numbers of domestic dogs during the Pandemic in 2020, reaching a total of about 650.000 dogs. To help all them and their first-time parents, Danish Internet and TV provider WAOO launched a free TV channel showing a 10-hour long feature film 24/7 specially designed to calm dogs during all the fireworks. Together with animal behaviour specialists we designed the film specifically to please dogs dichromatic vision, which means they see a range of two primary colors, yellow and blue, as well as being filmed in an optimised frame rate of 50 fps – double frame rate of normal films. The sound score is soothing for dog’s ears as it is full of sounds of the wind, water, birds and even lunching puppies – yes puppies! and the sound frequency levels works up to 65.000 Hz.
